Vesoul
City to Rediscover
Set on the sides of the hill of La Motte, an outlier standing high over the Durgeon Valley, old Vesoul boasts a remarkable diversity of architecture, which is representative of the city's history.
Right back in the Middle Ages, Vesoul was already a very active craft and trade centre, and its courthouse was promoted to the rank of "présidial" by Louis XIV, attracting to the town lawyers, administrators and rich traders.
Their beautiful mansions, all built between the 16th and 18th centuries, still surround the convents of the Ursulines and the Annonciades, close to the 18th century church to St George. Visitors should also come to discover, in the area around Vesoul, the Château d'Oricourt and the Lipsi Museum.
