A passion for fishing in the Loue Valley
Despite being so well known to anglers from all around, this is a stretch of water which continues to entrance.
Its clear water, home to one of the last remaining wild stocks in Europe, has made this a somewhat mythical river.
A paradise for sight fishing of trout and grayling, both with dry flies and nymphs, which for many is the most prestigious technique.
The Upper Loue
As soon as it rises, the River Loue sends its turbulent water into a deep canyon, and one has to travel to the village of Lods before the water becomes calm once again. It is the upstream section, in the Noailles Gorges, that the river is at its wildest and most beautiful. The Loue then carries on as far as the village of Ornans, where it widens out, and over the next few kilometres, it seems to change after every bend, offering a succession of fishing spots abundant in trout.
The Lower Loue
Just below Ornans, the meanders of the Loue are still rather rapid, and the private fishing spots, such as the famous La Piquette, are dotted along the next few kilometres of the river. The most interesting sections downstream of here are to be found above Arc et Senans. The highlight of these stretches of river, which are managed by four angling associations, are the beautiful grayling. You will also find lovely great trout that you will be able to sight fish with nymphs.
River Cuisance
The Cuisance, a superb Jura river that runs for 30 km, is managed, for around 17 km of its length, by the Arbois Society. The river rises upstream of les Planches, in a protected site, and winds its way through the untouched nature as far as Arbois. Its succession of string currents and calm zones make it a very interesting river to fish. But you will need to be careful, for the trout of Franche-Comté are very wary, and you will need to show every ounce of finesse you have!
The 2 km fly fishing zone ensures a day of angling as subtle as it will be fascinating.
