A passion for fishing in the upper Ognon and Breuchin Valleys

franche-comte_pierre_farineThe source of the River Ognon is to be found in the Ballons des Vosges Regional Nature Park, on the slopes of the Ballon de Servance.

It then rushes down the foothills of the Vosges before calming its ardours as it enters Lure.

The Ognon and its confluents are ideal for fly fishing, as is the Upper Ognon Valley, where the angling is of the finest quality, and where nature wears its most beautiful finery.

The Saut de l’Ognon Falls at Servance, for example, carved into a glacial rock bar in order to free the turbulent waters of this mountain river that were flooding the village, are well worth the trip.

As you return from your fishing trip, or your gentle stroll, you will be able to taste some delicious local.

River Breuchin

It is the heart of the land of the “Thousand Ponds”, in a majestic setting that stretches from the north of Haute-Saône to the foothills of the Vosges, that the River Breuchin rises, in the hamlet known as “Les Cents Sous”.

This little torrent soon becomes a beautiful river, fed by its confluents: the Tampa, with its famous waterfall at Corravillers, the Beuletin, La Croisière, which meets it at Longine, and last of all the Raddon, which crosses its path at Breuchotte. The 30 kilometres of river bursting with wild trout are a paradise for fly fishermen. It is maintained by two AAPPMA associations: Faucogney and Luxeuil-les-Bains.

The Plateau of the Thousand Ponds

The region is made fascinating by the moor land of broom and ferns, the meadows and the forests of oak and pine, fed by hundreds of streams and dotted with lakes, all of which inevitably conjures up images of the wild open spaces of Canada. The ideal spot for enjoying streamer fishing for predators.
