Baume-les-Dames
At the heart of the Doubs valley
Baume-les-Dames is a place where sailing has long time occupied a place of great importance thanks to Claude-François Dorothée de Jouffroy d'Abbans who carried out his first steamboat trials between 1776 and 1778.
Baume-les-Dames spent many years under the protection of the abbey founded in the 7th century which bequeathed an unfinished building to the inhabitants of Baume. Nearby stands the parish church of Saint Martin. You will need to visit the cemetery to enter the chapel of Saint-Sépulcre, which holds a remarkable Entombment of Christ in polychrome stone and an astonishing statue of a bearded saint! A major personality in the town, Jouffroy d'Abbans invented the steamboat which conducted its first successful tests on the lake of Condé in Baume-les-Dames.
The cultural heritage, walking, horse riding, mountain biking and cycling are all leisure activities where you will be able to find fulfilment.
The natural environment in the region is a gift for those who enjoy fishing and rock climbing; in short, each to his own pace in this area which lives to the rhythm of the festivities organised throughout the year generating much conviviality not to mention the pleasure of enjoying some the best restaurants in the area!
