The quality of Luxeuil-les-Bains lace was
first recognized under the Second Empire.
It is located within a tradition of early
Italian and Venetian needlepoint lacework,
and like many other lace-making traditions,
ran the risk of disappearing completely
through a lack of market in the modern
world. The creation of a lace conservatory
in 1978, however, enabled this artisanal
knowledge to be saved. In 1994, the official
mark Luxeuil lace mark of origin, Dentelle
de Luxeuil, was created and a certificate
of authenticity bestowed upon it. Discover
lace-makers at work and see exhibits of
needlework and other original creations.
