Gray
A river city
Built on a rocky outcrop overlooking the Saône valley, Gray, a listed site and a nature tourism resort, offers tourists many points of interest. Traversed by the Saône, Gray enjoys a privileged natural setting where the past and the present meet.
French since the conquest of the province by Louis XIV, in 1674, the town developed its port activity to become one of the leading river ports in France for wine, wheat and metal.
Great fortunes were built on these activities and, along with them, beautiful homes which add to the 16th century delights of the historic centre. The castle houses collections from the Baron Martin Museum, including a rich collection of paintings from Antiquity to the present day.
All year round, visitors will find many pretexts to spend time here, whether for the various activities organised, the numerous sporting and cultural events, or the opportunity to cast anchor along the 1,800 metres of quays available to pleasure cruisers. The activity on the Saône River provides the town with a very special character.
