On the Comté Trail

The first French cheese to be granted an Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée 50 years ago, Comté is a unique product, natural and wholesome, made characteristic by its rich aromas.
From the dairy farms to the maturation cellars, via the production centres, discover its history and how it is made, and meet the men and women whose passion ensures that the cheese-making tradition and know-how will live on. From high up on its mountain pasture, the herd of Montbéliard cattle, the only race whose milk can be used for making Comté, is already awaiting your arrival!!

PROGRAMME :
1st day :
Arrival in the Cheese Hamlet of Cléron: Welcome dink followed by a Comtois lunch.
Tour of the site. 1,000 years of tradition, a film on the history, exhibitions, slide show on the trades of Franche Comté, documents and illustration of bygone professions and tasting.
Tour of the tourist attractions in the
2 options to choose from at the end of the afternoon:
Arrival at Arc sous Cicon. Country meal (including drinks) and accommodation in a Gîtes de France approved guest house, with 3 "ears of wheat" ranking An authentic Comtois farm with a lovely cosy atmosphere
Or
Arrival at La Vrine. Comtois meal and night at the Logis de France Hotel-Farm with "3-fireplace" ranking.
2nd day :
After breakfast, departure for the Métabief –
Tour of the
End of the day free, we propose a choice between:
- Walk on the
- Visit of Pontarlier and its region: château de Joux,
- The tour of Lake Saint-Point with a picnic or lunch in one of the many lakeside restaurants: the Restaurant du Fromage in Malbuisson…
Don't forget ! on your way back, to pick up your free gift: a piece of Comté from one of the département's cheese dairies.
At an altitude of 1,100 m, between the Mont d’Or and Lake St Point, discover Fort St Antoine, its ancient stonework galleries and the courtyards, home to 65,000 mountain Comté cheeses. Tours possible on Thursdays, from 10 a.m all the year and on Wednesday at 10 a.m in July and August.
